Coop Tour Preview: Coop #11

June 22, 2012 in Tacoma Urban Coop Tour

We’re almost there.  2 more to go.

This morning we’re featuring coop #11.  When you arrive at this home you’d never know there was a coop hiding in here.  The coop is situated between buildings, but is quite ingenious.  The homeowner started with a coop kit.  Then she realized that chickens are really cool!  She needed a coop expansion.  Then she realized chickens are really really cool and… well you get the drift.

Here’s why you need to visit this coop.  The chickens.  This coop has more Maran type chickens than I’ve ever seen before.  She even has a Blue Cooper Maran.  If you aren’t familiar with chicken breeds Marans are the ones that lay very dark brown eggs.

These girls get to listen to classical music all day long and there are clever setups for feeders and water heaters throughout the coop.

While you’re there check out the cute little garden and the homeowners collection of fruit trees.  You might even spot some citrus.

The Second Tacoma Urban Coop Tour is Saturday, June 23rd from 10-4.  Tickets are $5 for adults, kids 16 and under are free.  You can purchase your tickets and map to all of the coops at GardenSphere.
