Welcome to the world of Sprouting Off. We are a mother and daughter team bringing you the latest in gardening know-how from the Pacific Northwest. Our goal is to motivate you to grow your own plants, and maybe a little of your own food.
How did this start? I (Lisa) love gardening. I have a degree in horticulture that is collecting dust. I thought it was high time that I put that education to good use. I’ve been involved in creating a resource for local growing, but I don’t contribute to the content. I have many things to say about gardening, growing our food, and sustainable agriculture. Sprouting Off is my opportunity to be a resource for other gardeners in the Northwest and in the US.
And of course I had to drag my mom along with me.
Stay tuned for posts on great topics like Gardening with Kids, Growing Organic, Book Reviews, and follow along as I chronicle our family vegetable garden experiment.
If you have questions or comments or would like to suggest a topic of discussion feel free to email me at lisa@sproutingoff.com. We encourage you to use the comments section to have discussions about particular gardening topics. We just ask that you respect the opinions of other posters.

Lisa and Renee,
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Though I’m not in your geographical area, I’ll be reading here daily to touch base with other folks who have been itching all winter to get back into the garden.
I DO have a question…..
Hybiscus – I have two very large, potted, outside in the summer, inside in the foul weather of winter. They are getting a little “stringy”, I know they need pruning, but not sure how far down to go….please help!~
